A 58-year-old dementia sufferer believed to have been missing from a Christchurch rest home for four nights had actually returned home on Saturday.

Wayne Clarke walked away from a Shirley rest home about 10pm on Thursday, and police believed he was still missing yesterday.

However, Clarke had been returned to his Shirley rest home on Saturday, a police spokesman confirmed this morning.

The spokesman said it appeared notification of Clarke's return had not been passed on.
