Labour-aligned candidate Helene Mautner is set to become the Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board's newest member.

Voting in the by-election closed at midday today.

Provisional results released by the Christchurch City Council showed that Mautner, a People's Choice candidate, was more than 3000 votes ahead of the next-highest candidate.

The council reported a 26.53 per cent turnout for the by-election, with a total of 10,759 votes cast.

The by-election was called after former board member Mike Thorley resigned earlier this year.
