A man has been seriously injured while working on a container ship at Lyttelton.
The man, working as a foreman stevedore, was injured in a fall while working on the Spirit of Endurance yesterday.
Lyttelton Port of Christchurch spokeswoman Jocelyn Patel said first-aiders at the site gave the man support before he was taken to Christchurch Hospital.
The company had spoken to the man's family, she said.
Maritime New Zealand was making preliminary inquiries, a spokesman said.
An official investigation had not been started at this stage, he said.
A Christchurch Hospital spokeswoman said the man was in a serious but stable condition today.
