Work started on expanding Christchurch's Re:Start container mall last night with several containers from the southern part of the mall being moved into the new northwest precinct to make way for a building development.
The new precinct will include several food shops, increasing the number of options for visitors.
Re:Start director Paul Lonsdale said organisers had wanted to expand the mall for some time and chose an area near the former Shades Arcade as the best location.
