Burglars flee with bucketload of cigarettes from rural Canterbury store

Two offenders can be seen rummaging through a locked cabinet at the Sefton Garage before making off with thousands of dollars of cigarettes.

Two burglars used a crowbar to jimmy open a cabinet before pouring thousands of dollars of cigarettes into a bucket.

The men were caught on CCTV footage posted on the Canterbury police Facebook page as they attempt to identify and track down the offenders.

Senior Sergeant Paul Reeves aid the men smashed a window to break into the Sefton Garage in North Canterbury between 6pm August 12 and 5am August 13.

The footage shows them prize open the cigarette cabinet before filling a bucket with a large quantity of cigarettes. One of the men grabbed a box of lollies on the way out.

Sefton Garage manager Nick Bruerton said the business was still recovering after the incident.

"We are bouncing back from it, it's quite a big hit for a business in the middle of nowhere."
