Missing man still puzzles police
Police have renewed calls for information on a man missing since 2005.
Lei Nie, also known as Andrew Nie, was last seen in Christchurch in May 2005.
Nie, who would now be 32, had been in New Zealand on a student visa that had expired.
Detective Sergeant Corey Watts, of the Wellington CIB, said a yearly review of the file was under way.
At the time of his disappearance, Nie was having financial difficulties and there was a suggestion he might have returned to China.
Police had been unable to find him and he could still be in New Zealand, Watts said.
"There's no evidence to suggest that Mr Nie has been a victim of foul play,'' he said.
''He may be in New Zealand or may have returned to China, and we urge any of his associates or friends to come forward and speak with police if they can provide any information whatsoever on his whereabouts."
Nie was last known to be in Christchurch but had connections in Wellington and the Bay of Plenty at the time he went missing.
Anyone with any information should call the Wellington police on 04 381 2000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
