Six-year-old Sven Lamberg-Downie thinks he could live in Antarctica after visiting the KidsFest Winter Wonderland exhibition in the Botanic Gardens.

The display showcases an icy forest complete with penguins and a hut with a roaring fire.

''I can live in Antarctica now because it's cool,'' Sven said.

His brother Sam, 8, said the free exhibit was fun.

The exhibit is one of 180 events to keep children entertained over the school holidays.

KidsFest is New Zealand's longest-running children's festival, and started in 1992.

Events will be held until July 14.
