A man was "glassed" in the neck and head with a beer bottle in a Merivale bar on Saturday night.
The 20-year-old was taken to hospital with serious head and neck injuries after he was "assaulted with glass" in Aikmans Bistro Bar, police said.
One of the victim's friends, who did not want to be named, described the attack as a "bottle to the face".
The incident happened about midnight - the injured and bleeding male was in the bar's kitchen when police arrived. A St John Ambulance spokesman said he was taken to Christchurch Hospital's emergency department with "serious injuries".
He described the victim's injuries as "being glassed on the side of the head".
The man was treated and discharged from hospital yesterday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Aikmans Bistro Bar would not comment on the incident but confirmed police had been called.
The glass attack followed a serious assault in Riccarton on Friday night that left a man hospitalised with head injuries.
A police spokesman said a man was assaulted by a gang of males near Fox and Ferret Bar in Rotherham St just before 11.30pm.
The 21-year-old victim phoned the police while he was lying on the ground bleeding from the head.
St John Ambulance attended and took the man to Christchurch Hospital with "head injuries".
Police received several calls "relating to disorder by a group of youths" in the Riccarton area about the same time as the assault but could not confirm if the incidents were related.
A Fox and Ferret staff member said the bar was not able to comment on the incident, but confirmed there "was a bit of a scrap" outside the premises on Friday night.
Police are investigating both assaults.
