Man missing since 2005 caught
A man last seen in Christchurch in 2005 has been found and will be deported to China.
Wellington police last month renewed their call for information on the whereabouts of Lei Nie, last seen in May 2005, after an annual review of the file.
Nie, 32, also known as Andrew Nie, had been in New Zealand on a student visa that had expired.
At the time of his disappearance Nie had financial difficulties and there was a suggestion he had returned to China.
Detective Sergeant Corey Watts, of the Wellington CIB, said Nie was taken into custody in Hastings on June 21 after an Immigration New Zealand investigation.
Nie was taken into custody under a false name, but his identify had since been confirmed and he was now awaiting deportation to China, Watts said.
"Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance," he said.
