Four people injured in a crash in Fernside are lucky to be alive, a Garden City spokesman said.
A 4WD ute and sedan collided at the intersection of Lehmans and Johns Rd, near Rangiora about 3.25pm.
"They're very, very lucky that's for sure. It was a high speed t-bone collision. Both cars doing 100km/h without braking and slamming into the side of each other, they're incredibly lucky to get away with it. It's quite amazing really."
It could potentially have been a fatal, he said.
The force of the impact sent one of the vehicles into a fence, he said.
The woman suffered a broken arm, while the other driver was "pretty much fine".
He said the children, aged about 6 and 8, were also "fine".
All were taken to Christchurch Hospital for observation.
