Christchurch police are calling for the person who helped a woman who had been assaulted to come forward.
Detective Tim Cummins said a woman was driving alone in a white Subaru Legacy when she stopped to help a distressed woman near the intersection of Barbadoes St and Nova Pl in central Christchurch between 1am and 2am on July 22, the night of the quarter-final Super 15 rugby match between the Crusaders and the Bulls.
A 42-year-old man was charged with assault with a weapon and attempted rape.
Cummins said it was important the driver contacted police to "help progress the investigation".
She is described as European, of slim build, with short blonde hair. She, or anyone with information, is asked to call Cummins on 373 9160.
