Invercargill police yesterday arrested a 30-year-old Christchurch man in relation to the indecent assault in Te Anau 10 years ago.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Bowman said that in 2002 a man unlawfully entered a Te Anau house and assaulted a 7-year-old girl while she lay sleeping in her bed.
The girl was a visitor staying at the house, Bowman said.
Forensic evidence has now linked a man to the incident through DNA and he will appear in the Christchurch District Court next week on charges of indecent assault on a girl aged under 12 and burglary.
Bowman said police were pleased to make progress on a historic case that at the time caused considerable concen in the Te Anau community.
