Road works warning for Papanui Rd
Drivers be warned - if you use Papanui Rd then be prepared for a slower trip for the next two months.
On Monday, Papanui Rd, from Innes Rd to Weston Rd, will be narrowed and the speed limit reduced to 30 kilometres per hour as the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (Scirt) start work on the replacement of the Papanui Rd wastewater pipe.
A Scirt spokeswoman said it was the first part of a three-stage project that was expected to take about two months.
The second stage is from Knowles St to Chapter St and the third is from Weston Rd to Mays Rd.
The spokeswoman said the stages would overlap slightly and drivers should build in extra time for their trips.
Road users have been given notice of the change coming through electronic signs on the road for the past week.
- Papanui Rd drivers going toward the city will only be able to turn left onto Innes Rd or continue straight ahead into Merivale. There will be no right turn onto Heaton St.
- People travelling down Weston Rd and Knowles St toward Papanui Rd will only be able to turn left.
- There will be no parking along Papanui Rd in the work area.
- Where driveway access on Papanui Rd is restricted, residents will get a letter in their letterbox the day before.
