An Avonhead man has appeared in court charged with indecently assaulting a seven-year-old girl as she lay in bed in Te Anau 10 years ago.
Hayden Jon Dallas Matchett, 30, a sheet metal worker, was granted a registrar's remand and did not appear before a judge at the Christchurch District Court today.
He entered no pleas to charges of indecent assault on a girl aged under 12, and burglary.
The registrar remanded him on bail to appear again at the marae on August 28.
Police allege an intruder entered a house in Te Anau during the night on March 8, 2002.
He is said to have indecently assaulted the girl - who was a visitor at the house - after pulling back the bedclothes as she lay asleep.
The intruder left behind a blue Nike cap.
Officers made the arrest through a DNA profile match, but declined to say how the evidence was linked.
