A car has landed upside down on railway tracks after crashing in North Canterbury.

A police spokesman said the crash occurred about 2 kilometres south of Waikari about 10.30am today.

There was only one vehicle involved.

A St John spokesman said two patients, one man and one woman, both suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Christchurch Hospital.

Fire crews from Amberley and Waipara attended, and police and ambulance staff were at the scene.
