Riccarton coverup initiative tackles graffiti
Cleaning up Christchurch

Sergeant Steve Jones, of the Riccarton-West Neighbourhood Policing Team, paints over one of the last bits of graffiti in his team's policing area yesterday, at the corner of Wharenui and Blenheim roads.
Jones said Christchurch City Council and police had cleaned up the graffiti between Riccarton, Wharenui and Blenheim roads and Matipo St.
"We're telling people you don't have to put up with it," he said.
The officers had surveyed more than 800 local property owners and found graffiti was a key issue, along with disorder, parties, noise, burglary, theft, speed, road safety, and alcohol.
The team had set up a neighbourhood support group. The next meeting, on November 1, would discuss graffiti.
