Several school holiday programmes in Christchurch may close.
The Christchurch City Council plans to withdraw its school holiday programmes in Bromley, Linwood and Templeton.
One fulltime position and 45 seasonal roles would be affected.
Council recreation and sport manager John Filsell said three community providers, with support from the council, had established alternative holiday programmes in Linwood and Bromley this year.
A community-based provider in Templeton had enough capacity to accommodate the children who would usually have attended the council's programme, he said.
He said the council would work with its community recreation advisers to build capacity and support community-operated holiday programmes and try to give affected staff other jobs.
