A 56-year-old motorcyclist from Takaka has died in a collision with a car driven by an 80-year-old Nelson man.
The crash happened at 5.30pm yesterday at Appleby, near Richmond, at the intersection of State Highway 60 and Cotterell Rd, known as Pea Viner Corner.
Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne McCoy, of Nelson, said the silver hatchback car was coming out of Cotterell Rd and indicating to turn right to head towards Nelson, and collided with the motorcyclist who was heading towards Motueka.
The motorcyclist was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson Sportster. There was no indication of speeding, he said.
The deceased was expected to be identified by next of kin today.
Serious crash investigators and detectives are investigating the crash. The vehicles will be examined tomorrow and witnesses are being interviewed.
