The Christchurch public got a peek at one of the Royal New Zealand Air Force's new helicopters today.

The NH90 helicopter - one of eight additions to the air force fleet - landed at the Air Force Museum in Wigram at 11am today.

The RNZAF spent $880 million on the new machines.

The helicopter was at Wigram as part of a training exercise, Squadron Leader Chris Andrew said.

The helicopter left for Ohakea at noon.
