A man is in hospital after falling onto rocks in Kaiteriteri yesterday.
The Nelson/Marlborough rescue helicopter was called to assist the 32-year-old man who had fallen while walking over shoreline rocks near Split Apple Rock in Kaiteriteri, injuring his left ankle/lower leg.
An intensive care paramedic was winched onto the rocks to stabilise the patient so he could be winched into the helicopter.
There was no boat access and the rugged terrain meant a difficult extraction by foot.
He was winched aboard and treated by the onboard paramedic enroute to Nelson Hospital.
