Trio found in Arthur's Pass bush
Police have arrested two men on the run and their associate after a search in Arthur's Pass National Park.
Police had been searching for Ivan Campbell, 46, and Jaydon Galland, 18, who absconded from the Salisbury Foundation in Merivale last Wednesday. They were with a third man, Jamie Campbell, 25, also known as Alexander Paul Jones.
Shortly after noon today, police found the three men in bush at Arthur's Pass.
Detective Inspector Tom Fitzgerald said the men were found in the bush near the Hawdon Shelter, west of the Mt White bridge, not far from where a vehicle belonging to one of the men was found yesterday.
They were arrested without incident, he said.
The trio would be taken to Christchurch this afternoon and held in custody overnight before appearing in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow morning.
Fitzgerald said the arrests followed good investigative work and the efforts of search teams.
He thanked the public for their help and information.
Ivan Campbell was arrested for breach of parole and Galland for breaching community detention, while Jamie Campbell will face charges in relation to assisting the escape.
It had earlier been reported the men were using a blue six-person dome tent and travelling in a silver and black Subaru station wagon, registered to Jamie Campbell.
Ground searchers and a helicopter had been involved in the search.
Arthur's Pass National Park visitors' centre supervisor Chris Stewart said earlier today that there had been concern in the area about the men, and one village resident said she was keeping her door locked overnight.
Arthur's Pass Village Bed and Breakfast owner Geoff Keey said the police had been good in allaying any fears.
"They've knocked on all our doors and made sure everyone was aware of the situation," he said.
Glenn Kerrison, of the Wobbly Kea Cafe and Bar, said he did not think the three men would have found it easy to cope in the "rough terrain".
