A motorcyclist was killed on the Takaka Hill highway tonight following a collision with a 4x4 vehicle, which overturned in the crash.
The accident took place at 5.37pm and a spokesman for the Nelson-Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said the motorcyclist had died at the scene.
A passenger in the 4x4 was treated at the scene and flown to Nelson Hospital with the vehicle's driver.
A police spokesman said police were unable to provide further details on the deceased at this stage.
Nelson police spokeswoman said emergency services were still at the scene. The highway was open, but a detour was in place until further notice, she said.
