Smart signs will guide city travellers
New and smart technologies will be used to help guide locals and visitors around Christchurch's new central business district.
The Christchurch Central Development Unit's draft transport plan proposes using a mix of new bilingual signs (in English and Maori), wayfinding systems, smart technology and interpretation mapping to assist people find their way around the central city.
Under the plan there will be:
Driver information and car parking signs so drivers can efficiently locate parking.
Directional signs to point people towards public facilities such as the bus interchange and super stops.
Signs with directions and information for visitors so people unfamiliar with the city can easily find key visitor attractions, whether they are driving, cycling or walking.
Strategically placed traffic signs on the approaches to and along the four avenues to encourage traffic heading into the central city to do so along the most appropriate routes and to point traffic not travelling into the central city towards alternative routes around it.
