Man arrested after Dunedin stabbing
Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in relation to an attack on a woman in her Dunedin home.
The woman was punched and stabbed in the neck after answering the front door of her Duncan St home about 9am yesterday.
She managed to fend off her attacker and flee with her 3-year-old daughter, who was unharmed. They were picked up by a passing motorist and taken to Dunedin Hospital.
The Dunedin man faces a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in Dunedin District Court today.
Further serious charges were likely, police said. Police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the attack.
Officers were continuing to examine the woman's home and that was expected to take a further two days to complete.
They had yet to speak to the victim again. She remained in Dunedin Hospital, recovering from surgery she underwent yesterday.
Police said there were still inquiries to complete in relation to the incident, but thanked members of the public who had provided information.
