The Coastal Pacific passenger train has been delayed today after clipping a car at north of Kaikoura.
Police inspector Mike Coutler said there were no injuries in the incident, which happened at Half Moon Bay at about 10am.
A KiwiRail spokeswoman said there was no damage to the train, but the Christchurch to Picton passenger train had been delayed for 45 minutes.
