Bikes early Xmas gifts for kids
Christmas came early to 100 worthy Christchurch kids today, thanks to a new bike and helmet from Variety - the Children's Charity.
The 100 local children were part of 450 kids nation-wide aged seven to nine who recieved bikes as part of the annual Bikes for Kids tour.
Mayor Bob Parker distributed the bikes to the children, who were nominated by their schools for being a role model within their school or community, or overcoming personal hardship or adverse circumstances.
Brianna, 9, of Riccarton Primary said it was ''really good'' to have a new bike.
Brianna had been diagnosed with epilepsy in August this year, and has been dealing with ''quite scary'' seizures, causing her to struggle at school.
The Bikes for Kids tour is part of the Variety Kids on the Move mobility programme.
The tour is part of Variety's 21st anniversary celebrations.
