EXTINGUISHED: The Fire Service was called to a block of flats in Ruskin St this morning after one of the flats caught fire.

Firefighters are battling a blaze at a block of flats in central Christchurch.

The Fire Service was called to the block of five flats in Ruskin St, off Antigua St, about 8.15am.

A Fire Service spokesman said it was not yet known how one of the flats caught fire.

"We received multiple calls to the flat, which was on fire. One person was in the flat but they have been told to evacuate."
