Relevant offers

Police have released the name of the man who died in a car crash in Kaiapoi yesterday.

He was Peter Gray, 70, of Christchurch.

Gray was the sole occupant of a car which left the road and hit a house in Sewell St, about 12.20pm.

The house is unoccupied and is part of an area of red-zoned homes in the North Canterbury township.

The car travelled across the lawn and through a plaster wall at the side of the house.

A St John spokesman said the man had been confirmed dead at the scene.

A police statement said "although it will be for the coroner to determine the cause of death, there are indications that a medical event may have been involved".

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
