Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a man whose body was found in a burnt out car.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Archer said the death of Shane Malcolm Bell, 28, has been referred to the coroner.

Archer said officers are satisfied there is no evidence of foul play in Bell's death.

"It will now be for the coroner to make a determination as to the cause of death," he said.

Police will not comment further on the circumstances of Bell's death.

Bell, a self-employed car salesman, was last seen at his Dallington house on Thursday morning.

His badly burnt body was found in a burnt-out car in North Canterbury on Sunday.

Mechanic Lance Henderson found the body at the southern end of Dunlops Rd, near Loburn.

The discovery sparked a suspicious death investigation by police.

Archer said Bell's family had requested privacy.

Is the mayor correct to put libraries, pools and community facilities ahead of the Town Hall?

Absolutely, they're far more important

I think funds should be split between those facilities and the town hall

No, the Town Hall should be rebuilt first

Just demolish the Town Hall completely instead of rebuilding
