Police car damaged in early morning chase

A police vehicle was hit during a car chase in Christchurch early this morning.

A police spokesman said police were pursuing a stolen silver Toyota Surf car along Main North Road about 2.20am when it pulled over. However, when the police car also stopped the driver of the stolen car backed it into the police car then took off.

The stolen car, and its occupants, have not been located yet.

It is unknown how badly damaged the police car was.
