Police have released the name of a young woman found dead in her Cass St home in Ashburton yesterday. She was 22-year-old Sina Nerisa Solomona.
The young woman had suffered traumatic head injuries and was pronounced dead by the local St John's ambulance paramedics who attended the scene.
Ashburton police held a media briefing this afternoon following their examination of the scene which included inquiries to establish her movements in the hours leading up until her body was found.
An autopsy will be carried out in Christchurch tomorrow to establish the cause of her death and any other injuries she suffered.
inquiries are also being made with her associates and others who may have had relevant information to pass to the investigation.
Solomona worked at Canterbury Meat Packers. Police have asked that if anyone has information that may be relevant to the investigation they can contact 03 363 7400 and ask to be put through to the inquiry team.
Police earlier said they were not ruling out homicide.
Detective senior Sergeant John Rae, of Christchurch police, said officers had been speaking to people in the area and were examining the scene.
"We still have some way to go before we can determine what happened."
