Christchurch residents have woken to a cool and drizzly Christmas morning, but forecasters say the rain will soon lift.

The temperature this morning is 16.5 degrees Celsius, but the city is forecast to reach a high of 27C today.
The MetService outlook is for morning drizzle clearing, then fine with northeasterlies.
Rain is also predicted for Boxing Day, with southerlies and a high of 24C.
The weather in Christchurch is expected to become hot and sunny again by Saturday.
MetService is warning of heavy rain for Nelson and Buller today.
"A warm, moist air mass is covering the North Island and the upper South Island, and heavy showers can be expected in many areas, especially this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon," it said.
Heavy rain could fall around the ranges of Nelson and Buller from late this morning, and people in the area are advised to be aware of river levels and the possibility of flooding.
