Police were forced to abandon their pursuit of a stolen vehicle today because of possible risks to the public.
A police spokesman said police chased the vehicle, which had previously been reported stolen, for a "short while" about 11.30am.
"They pursued the vehicle along New Brighton Rd and down Gayhurst Rd," he said.
A witness rang The Press to say he had seen six police cars, three of them mufti, chasing a Subaru through Shirley near The Palms mall.
The spokesman said police were forced to abandon the chase "due to danger posed to the public".
The driver of the stolen vehicle escaped.
