Police are searching for a man seen filming outside a Mairehau house last night.
A member of the public reported seeing a man near Walter Park looking over the fence of a nearby property about 5.30pm.
The man was reported to be holding up a cellphone, possibly filming, while doing an indecent act.
The man left the area quickly after being confronted by the witness.
Police believe the man may have driven away in a green Toyota Hiace van, possibly a 1990s model, covered in V Energy drink stickers.
The man was described as European, in his 50s, about 1.8 metres tall, of solid build and with grey hair.
He was reported to be wearing black dress pants, a white shirt and tie.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Senior Sergeant Phil Dean, of the Papanui police, on 374 1762.
To provide information anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
