Police are searching for a man who indecently assaulted a teenage boy on a bus on Saturday afternoon.

The 16-year-old victim was travelling on the Leopard Coachlines No 5 bus between New Brighton and the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Linwood when he was assaulted.

"The information we have to date suggests the offender was at the bus stop on Beresford St, New Brighton, prior to the assault,"  Detective Brent Lyford said.

"We believe the man exited the bus near the Eastgate mall and was last seen running east on Buckleys Rd."

The man is described as a European in his mid-20s, of medium build, with a chubby face, dark mid-neck-length hair combed to the rear, and a light goatee beard.

At the time of the assault he was reported to be wearing a black ''Forsyth Barr'' T-shirt, white shorts and jandals.

Lyford said that although the boy did not suffer any injuries, the incident was distressing.

Anyone with information should contact Lyford on 363 7400.
