Motorists who use Linwood Avenue are being warned of the closure of a major intersection from February 4.
The intersection at Aldwins Rd and Buckleys Rd will be closed to Linwood Avenue traffic for two weeks.
Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (Scirt) general manager Duncan Gibb said crews are installing a wastewater pipeline essential for the city's rebuild and carrying 30% of the city's wastewater.
"The closure to through traffic is unavoidable for a short period, and the crews will be doing their best to get the work done as safely and efficiently as possible. However, there will be significant disruption and flow-on effects for traffic," he said.
Drivers on either side of the intersection on Linwood Avenue will be detoured onto Aldwins Rd and Buckleys Rd.
Buckleys Rd and Aldwins Rd drivers will be able to slowly cross the intersection.
Alternative routes through the area are also expected to be busy.
