Man found dead, woman charged with murder
LATEST: Police have released the name of a man found murdered in Christchurch overnight.
He was Guy Christian Scollay, aged 48, of Christchurch.
A 44-year-old woman has been arrested for murder after police found Scollay's body an Edgeware Rd address about 3am today. She will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
The woman and a 19-year-old man also at the house were relatives of the victim.
Detective Inspector Virginia Le Bas says police believe the incident was family violence-related, and no one else was being sought in connection with the death.
A weapon, believed to have been used in the incident, has been located at the scene.
Le Bas says next of kin have been advised of the death, and Victim Support and police family liaison staff are working with relatives.
A forensic examination at the address will continuing this evening and tomorrow, and investigators are conducting follow-up interviews.
The body of the deceased has been removed from the house this afternoon, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow.
A person at the house had called police, Le Bas said.
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said he was coming home about 3am today after visiting a friend and saw the woman being arrested.
He did not know the woman, but said she was "very distraught".
"I went inside, I didn't want to be involved."
The man had lived in the area for about five years and said the murder was "quite a shock".
"It's quite bizarre. It's a good, happy street, every one knows every one pretty good."
Neighbour Angela Lumsden said she was woken by a man and woman talking about 2.30am, but did not think anything of it.
A friend who had stayed overnight woke her up about 7.30am after seeing "lots of police outside".
"It's so crazy. It's quite weird looking out your window and see all that. It's scary that I was right here and didn't really hear anything."
