Christchurch police have named the elderly man killed in a two-car collision near Kainga.

Andrew James Freme, 88, of Christchurch, died when his car and another collided at the intersection of Main North Rd and Marshland Rd yesterday afternoon.

Police said an elderly woman, a passenger in Freme's car, was in a comfortable condition in Christchurch Hospital after suffering serious injuries.

Investigations into the crash are continuing.
