A 4-year-old boy has been flown to hospital after becoming entangled in a ferris wheel in Murchison.

The incident happened at the Murchison A&P Show about 3pm yesterday.

The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene after the boy received moderate arm injuries when he was entangled in the ferris wheel.

A helicopter spokesperson said the boy was assessed at the scene, before being transported with family to Nelson Hospital for further treatment.

The incident was one of three that kept the rescue helicopter crew busy in the Tasman district yesterday afternoon.

At 1.30pm, two women participating in the Waka Ama event at Lake Rotoiti were flown to Nelson Hospital.

The first woman, a 34-year-old from Nelson, had a suspected spinal injury, while the second, a 55-year-old from Dunedin, was suffering from chest pain.

Both women were assessed and treated by the intensive care paramedic onboard the rescue helicopter, before they were flown to Nelson Hospital together.

At 4pm, the rescue helicopter was sent to Takaka after a 21-year-old man received moderate leg injuries when he was pinned against a tree by a bulldozer.

The man was treated on-route to Nelson Hospital by the onboard intensive care paramedic.
