Firefighters have been battling a blaze this afternoon in the same area plagued with scrub fires last month.

Fire Service southern communications shift manager Riwai Grace said fire trucks from Lincoln, Rolleston and Sockburn were called to the corner of Selwyn and Robinsons roads after a a member of the public alerted them at 1.10pm.

The caller reported the fire as being 10 by six metres in size, but another call followed to report the fire as nearing 100m by 40m.

The fire had "spread quickly" and was threatening a nearby hedge, Grace said.

It had since been brought under control and most of the trucks had been stood down.

Three fire trucks remained at the scene to fully extinguish the fire, but these were expected to be finishing up shortly.

It was not known how the fire started.
