The life of late children's author Margaret Mahy will be celebrated with the release of stamps featuring her most popular work.
With the help of Mahy's family, five of her books were chosen to have the front cover illustrations feature on the stamps.
The stamps are A Lion in the Meadow (70c), A Summery Saturday Morning ($1.40), The Word Witch ($1.90), The Great White Man-Eating Shark ($2.40) and The Changeover ($2.90).
Mahy's daughter, Penny Mahy, and granddaughter Alice Mahy were at the launch of the stamps at the Wellington City Library today and read her stories to attending schoolchildren.
New Zealand Post head of stamps and coins Ivor Masters said it was "very fitting" that Mahy was recognised in the latest stamp issue as a recipient of several New Zealand Post Book of the Year awards.
The stamps will be available from tomorrow from selected PostShops, online at www.nzpost.co.nz/stamps or 0800 STAMPS (782 677).
