A group of Irish revellers from Ashburton celebrating St Patrick's Day in Queenstown got into a bit of strife.
Queenstown acting sergeant Tracy Haggart said four Irishmen in their early 20s, all living in the Ashburton area, were out in the resort to celebrate St Paddies.
They were denied entry to Sky City casino at 3.45am yesterday, then went downstairs to the foyer and stole soft drinks.
When police caught up with them, the men admitted taking the drinks and all were charged with theft.
A 21-year-old Irishman, also living in Ashburton, was removed from Winnies bar at 11.55pm on Sunday after falling over on the dance floor.
Outside he became aggressive towards door staff, who restrained him until police arrived and issued a pre-charge warning.
