Woman escapes after three men attempt to assault her in car
Three men attempted to sexually assault a woman and threatened her with a weapon after offering her a lift in suburban Christchurch.
The woman lashed out at her offenders and fled from the car after the men offered her a ride on Breezes Rd, near the intersection with Carters Rd, about midnight on Saturday.
A police spokeswoman said the three men in the black Holden Commodore were described as being about 30 years old, Maori or Polynesian, and had been wearing black clothing.
The car had a hub cap missing from the front left wheel and travelled about 500 metres down the road before the woman escaped at the intersection of Breezes and Pages roads.
The woman was distressed but not injured, the spokeswoman said.
The assault is the third attack on a woman in Christchurch in as many days.
A 14-year-old girl was groped in Barrington as she was walking home on Sunday, and on Friday a man attempted to pull a woman's pants down on Marshland Rd, near The Palms shopping mall.
Three women were also sexually attacked in two separate incidents in Dunedin on Friday night. In one of the incidents, a man allegedly walked into a student flat on Dundas St and sexually assaulted two women inside.
Police urged anyone who was around Breezes Rd and Pages Rd about midnight on Saturday and who may have seen the black Holden Commodore in the area to contact Christchurch police on 03 363 7400.
