Driver escapes uninjured after car plunges into Christchurch's Avon River
The driver of a small car that plunged into the Avon River waded through waist-deep water to reach safety.
Police said the woman launched the vehicle over the edge of a small bank and into the Christchurch river about 1pm on Friday.
The woman climbed out of the vehicle. She was uninjured.
A Fire Service spokesman said they found the woman out of the water, near the corner of Avonside Dr and Woodham Rd.
He could not confirm if anyone else was in the car.
