A shallow magnitude-4.6 earthquake that jolted Christchurch this morning was the first of that size since January.

The quake rocked the city at 9.45am and was 6 kilometres deep. It was centred 10km east of Christchurch, off New Brighton.
It was described as "strong" by GeoNet.
Cantabrians who rushed to GeoNet's website to get more details were not able to see anything for about 25 minutes as there was a delay in the report showing up on the website.
Thomas Mead tweeted: "I guess Geonet didn't get the daylight saving memo?"
Anthea Livingstone joked: "Are you sleeping in @geonet?"
GeoNet has since explained the delay.
"Our automatic system missed this quake, and we're still investigating why this was. The earthquake was subsequently manually located by our duty seismologist," spokeswoman Caroline Little said.
She said the quake should have been easily recognised by the automatic system as it registered on 77 of GeoNet's seismographs around the country, even as far north as Hamilton.
Canterbury last had a quake of this size on January 19.
"Apart from missing this earthquake, the earthquake location system is functioning as normal. It has located over 70 quakes in the last 24 hours, including a quake 23 minutes before this missed Christchurch quake, and one 26 minutes later," Little said.
In the hour after the quake, more than 500 people had reported to GeoNet that they had felt it.
Cantabrians also took to Twitter to say they had felt the rumble.
Sophie O'Grady said: "Looks like we still livin' in earthquake central."
Hamish MacLeod described it as a "pretty violent jolt", while Sal Dixon said her house was "rolling", and Kineta Booker said her computer was rattling and her walls were creaking.
"I was sitting in my car at the lights on the corner of Cranford and Innes Road and felt the 9.45am quake as continued shaking of the car," Jill Boyd said.
"I looked over at the car in the next lane and it was shaking as well."
