Motorcyclist dies after crash

A 47-year-old man has died after a motorcycle crash near Nelson.

The crash happened on a bend in Kerr Hill Rd in Golden Downs, south of Nelson, about 12.30pm yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said the male motorcyclist had collided with a van travelling in the opposite direction.

Police believed the motorcyclist was riding with a group.

The man was stablised at the scene and flown to Nelson Hospital by the Nelson-Marlborough Rescue Helicopter.

However, he died about 8pm as a result of his injuries.

The helicopter crew also flew the driver of the van to Nelson Hospital. He remained in a stable condition.

A police serious crash investigation is underway.
