A 62-year-old man died when the concrete water-feature wall he was working on in a Blenheim garden collapsed.

Police said the man's wife and a neighbour tried to help when the accident happened yesterday afternoon, but he died about 4pm before emergency services arrived.

The incident happened at the man's home in Murphys Rd, Springlands.

Dion Partridge of the Blenheim Volunteer Fire Brigade said two crews helped ambulance staff and the accident was in the hands of the police.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
