Event organisers expected a crowd of 100,000 to pour into Hagley Park last night. Despite MetService warnings of possible thunderstorms, concert organisers encouraged Cantabrians to bring their raincoats and go along anyway.
MoreFM's Simon Barnett and Gary McCormick once again took to the stage to host the annual event, now in its 20th year.
Musical performances included X Factor favourites Jackie Thomas, Benny Tipene and Moorhouse, plus perennial Christmas favourites Jackie Clarke and Frankie Stevens, who said he was making his final appearance. The night was capped off by a fireworks display accompanied by a medley of Beatles songs.
This year's free concert featured a record number of performers and raised money for Surf Life Saving New Zealand. Christmas in the Park will now head to Auckland's Domain on December 14. Highlights from the shows will be on TV3 on December 15.
