LATEST: A man's body has been found floating in the water off D'Urville Island, near the northern tip of the Marlborough Sounds.

A police spokeswoman said the body was found by a couple moored on their yacht in Greville Harbour, D'Urville Island, yesterday afternoon.

A second yacht had been moored about 100 metres away from the couple and it was believed the deceased man had come from there, she said.

The couple were able to pull the man's body from the water and into a dingy until police arrived on a Coastguard vessel.

Enquiries were continuing to establish the man's identity of the man and an autopsy would be carried out today.

The circumstances around the man's death did not appear suspicious, the spokeswoman said.
