A 32-year-old Department of Conservation worker has been injured in Westland.

A police spokesman said the woman was injured in the Waituna Creek area.

The spokesman said police were alerted to the incident about 4.20pm today.

"It looks like [search and rescue workers] are going to arrange a chopper to winch her out of there," he said.

"She has got injuries and ... is unable to walk. She has got other people with her."
